A fire damages every school bus in the Sperry School District's Bus Barn. The fire started around 5:30 tonight. Firefighters from Sperry, Country Corner and Skiatook responded to the fire.
They told us when they got there, heavy black smoke was pouring out of the bus barn. Investigators don't know what sparked the fire, but the intense flames quickly spread to nine all buses in the bus barn. Two of the buses are nothing but charred shells, the others suffered smoke damage. The good news is the buses are not scheduled to run Thursday.
Jerry Burd/Sperry Superintendent: "Luckily we're out of school for the holidays. We'll try to get things back up before we start back at school January 4th."
Chief Sam Bradley/Sperry Fire Dept: "It's going to take a little bit of time to rebuild for this small school system. We just want to get this investigated and see what caused this.
The 25 firefighters had the fire knocked out in about 15 minutes. The cause is under investigation, but arson has not yet been ruled out.
