Tulsa police are looking for a man who may be responsible for as many as nine separate armed robberies. They've all happened over the past week and a half. The latest robbery was today.
The most recent case, believed to be linked to this one man, was today at the Taco Mayo at 13th and Lewis. Wednesday, News on 6 anchor Craig Day talked to police, and one of the victims of the suspected serial robber.
Michael Harwell says in his 27 years in the hamburger business, Tuesday night was the first time he's ever been robbed. He hopes it is also the last time.
Michael Harwell, Freddie's Hamburgers: "He come in and asked for change, and I gave him a dollars worth of change, and then he threw a handgun up on the counter and said I'll take the rest of it."
Harwell says the gunman took the cash in the register and backed his way out of the restaurant with his gun drawn.
In addition to that armed robbery at Freddie's, investigators believe that same armed man is responsible for a number of other robberies in the area.
As many as nine other robberies in a span of only ten days. The most recent one was at the Taco Mayo at 13th and Lewis. That robbery happened at about 10:30 Wednesday morning. This is surveillance video from the December 15th robbery of a Subway at 16th and North Peoria, one of four businesses hit that weekend. No one has been hurt, but police say anytime someone uses a gun to commit a crime, something worse can happen.
Sgt Dave Walker, Tulsa Police Department: "You're just one robbery away from a catastrophe, so when you get a serial guy, you want to get on him and get him into custody as fast as we can."
That's also the hope of Michael Harwell.
Michael Harwell, Freddie's Hamburgers: "He's robbing a lot of places. He'll make a mistake, you know. All of them do. Eventually he'll get caught. I hope he does."
This is the man's picture again. He's in his 20's and is around 5 feet, eight inches tall and weighs around 160. He usually wears a black jacket with a hood. Anyone with information that could help police should call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS.
