TULSA, Okla. (AP) Rod Earls scored 13 points and Tulsa overcame an inefficient outside shooting performance to beat Prairie View A&M 83-54 on Saturday.
The Golden Hurricane (8-1) had made just one of its first 18 3-point attempts when Calvin Walls hit one with 10:05 remaining to give Tulsa a 53-32 cushion.
Tulsa compensated by outrebounding the Panthers (1-8) 46 to 25, forcing 24 turnovers and blocking 5 shots. Tulsa also shot 62 percent (23-37) when it stepped inside the arc.
Walls and Charles Ramsdell had 10 points each for the Golden Hurricane.
Jared Ellison had 12 points for Prairie View A&M, which has played all but one of its games on the road or in tournaments.
The Golden Hurricane led 33-25 after a sluggish 1st half, then scored the first 12 points of the 2nd half. Tulsa held A&M scoreless until a free throw by Derek Johnson with 13:36 remaining.
The Panthers shot just 37 percent (17-46) for the game.
