A man is found dead after his car veers off the road and lands in a creek. The overturned vehicle was discovered Saturday morning near Lynn Lane and Waco in Broken Arrow.
News on 6 reporter Chris Wright says the victim has been identified as 21 year-old Michael Robertson of Broken Arrow.
Authorities are not sure when the accident happened; nobody saw or heard the accident, so police don't know how long Robertson has been dead.
Broken Arrow resident John Dees noticed something out of the corner of his eye Saturday morning while driving past the creek on Lynn Lane.
"So I parked my truck up the road there and came down here, and opened up the door and saw that there was somebody in there," said Dees.
Police say the man inside was killed after his truck veered off the road, struck the embankment, and overturned into the creek.
The area where the truck came to rest is well concealed, and without any witnesses, authorities believe it will be difficult to determine exactly when the accident occurred. Police spent Saturday reconstructing when and where the truck began its skid, hoping that would shed some light on what happened.
Police say wrecks are common on Lynn Lane because drivers often speed along the curvy road.
"We've had a number of collisions throughout the years that are similar to this. Motorists are driving too fast through these curves, exceeding the speed limit, they drive off the roadway," Sgt. Ed Furgoson said.
Residents agree, saying this stretch of road is well known for accidents.
"Whenever they try to make that turn late, they kind of lose it, looks like he flipped around," Broken Arrow resident Michael Lietzke said.
John Dees has lived in the area for two decades, and he has seen a number of Lynn Lane accidents over the years, but has never made a discovery like he made Saturday morning.
"It gets your heart going pretty quick. You think you can maybe save somebody, and it's pretty emotional when you find out they're dead," Dees said.
Authorities are now saying that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Broken Arrow police are working with the Fire Department, Medical Examiner's office, and a local tow truck services to get the truck and the body out of the creek.
