TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Sinclair Oil Corporation's Tulsa petroleum refinery announced a settlement Wednesday with the US Department of Justice.

The settlement centered on alleged permit violations of the Clean Water Act.

The Salt Lake City-based company says it regretted the violations and will be paying a monetary penalty for the federal claims its Tulsa refinery altered wastewater flows between 2002 and 2004.

Terms of the settlement were not immediately disclosed, and attempts by The Associated Press to reach Sinclair's general counsel were unsuccessful.

The company also said in the statement that the claims did not involve a safety breach or environmental spill and that measures are in place at the refinery to prevent any repeat occurrence.

The refinery employs 257 people and supplies petroleum products to states throughout the Midwest.
