PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) Ponca City school officials have suspended an elementary principal with pay after allegations of lewd conduct with a minor were leveled against him.

School officials confirmed Friday that 34-year-old Jeff Edwards was suspended Thursday pending the outcome of a police investigation.

Edwards is principal at Trout Elementary School, which has about 350 students in pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade.

Ponca City police said an investigation is under way into accusations involving lewd acts with a child under the age of 16.

Police spokeswoman Sherry Bowers says this the only allegation officers have been made aware of.
