VANOSS, Okla. (AP) -- A rural Pontotoc County man was arrested after he crashed his pickup truck into the front of a high school while classes were in session.
Police say 54-year-old Richard Earl Melton pulled up to the front of Vanoss High School Thursday and touched the front doors with his pickup truck before backing up about 50 yards and crashing into the building.
No one was hurt, but Undersheriff Joe Glover says there was significant damage to the cinderblock building, with glass shattered and the door frame destroyed.
Melton was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and child endangerment. He was being held without bond and scheduled for an initial court appearance tomorrow.
Glover says Melton has a son and daughter who attend the school.
