A nation-wide push to thin out trans-fats is taking hold in Tulsa.

One national chain is already trans-fat free, and many more are in the process. Restaurant kitchens in New York City have been ordered to cut out trans-fatty acids. Other cities from Chicago to California are considering doing the same.

So far, that's not the case in Tulsa, but you'll barely scrape up any trans-fats at local Wendy's restaurants. They've switched out the oil they fry in. Chicken sandwiches and nuggets are trans-fat free. French fries only have a fraction of the fat, down from 7 grams to half a gram.

Doctors have found trans-fats cause heart disease, diabetes, and liver problems. The nationwide push has convinced other chains like KFC, Taco Bell, and Arby's to start eliminating the trans-fatty acids.

As far as Wendy's, they say they tried to cut the fat, without cutting the flavor. Jim Cook with Wendys: "It's a big job, and they did it after significant consumer testing to make sure that the products had no difference in taste or quality or hold times or things like that that the operational people look at."

Cook says the Wendy's around Tulsa have been trans-fat free since August, and customers can't tell the difference.
