MOORPARK, Calif. (AP) Firefighters on Tuesday moved closer to containing a 13,600-acre wildfire that has burned five homes in Southern California.

Ferocious weekend winds had died to gentle breezes, allowing firefighters to douse smoldering hot spots left. There were no active flames by late afternoon Tuesday, Ventura County fire Capt. Barry Parker said.

The fire area was about 21 square miles with orchards, ranches and housing tracts. The area, northwest of Los Angeles, was about 80 percent contained Tuesday.

A ``red flag'' warning of extreme fire conditions remained in place because of low humidity, less than 2 percent by dusk, that made brush extremely dry.

The fire began early Sunday near a huge egg production facility that is now defunct. The cause was still being investigated.

Residents who had fled were allowed to return and all roads were open Tuesday, fire officials said.
