OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma State Board of Regents Tuesday named former state House Speaker Glen Johnson the new chancellor of higher education.

The board voted without opposition to appoint Johnson who is currently president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant.

Johnson says he plans to be "service oriented" in his approach to Oklahoma's colleges and universities.

He succeeds Paul Risser who resigned earlier this year to take a post at the University of Oklahoma.
