POTEAU, Okla. (AP) -- Joe E. White, who has been the president of Carl Albert State College in Poteau for 31 years, says he plans to retire next July 3rd.
The 69-year-old White has served as the junior college's third president since 1975 and is the dean of college presidents in Oklahoma.
A president-elect is expected to be named Tuesday. White wouldn't identify his successor but said the person is not now working at the college.
It's considered highly unusual for a college president to stay in the position as long as White has.
He says that when you get to his age, quote, "you get all your ducks in a row and it's time to move on."
White has led the LeFlore County college as its enrollment has grown from a few hundred students to 2,700 this semester.
