SAN ANTONIO (AP) A team spokesman says Texas will play in the Alamo Bowl on December 30th.
It's the first Alamo Bowl trip for the defending NCAA champs, who fell out of the national championship race with consecutive losses to Kansas State and Texas A&M.
The 9-3 Longhorns will play 6-6 Iowa, which finished 9th in the Big 10.
The Longhorns have played in San Antonio at least two other times: a loss to Nebraska in the 1999 Big 12 championship game and a win over SMU in a neutral site game in 1993.
Iowa is playing in its fourth Alamo Bowl.
It's almost like a home game for the Longhorns. It's a 75-mile drive from Austin to San Antonio.
