Some people have to work, despite winter weather, namely, police officers and 911 operators. Tulsa Police say the biggest mistake people make, is going too fast when the roads are slick.

It's also important to know what type of brakes you have. If they're not anti-lock and you're sliding, pump them, so you can still steer. If they are anti-lock brakes, push down and don't let up until you stop.

Tulsa Police Cpl. Steve Wood: "If you've never experienced that vibration through the brake pedal and very loud noise it makes, they almost think something is wrong with their car."

911 dispatchers and call takers aren't as visible as police officers, but they also brave bad weather conditions to keep people safe. Half of all their calls now come from cell phones and they don't know your location unless you tell them.

If you have a non-injury accident, you'll get a recording that explains you're to exchange information, fill out your own report and mail it in, while the city is on Operation Slick Streets.
