The White House said guests of the president and his wife, Laura, included Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former personal assistant Blake Gottesman and his parents.
On the first family's menu was free-range roasted turkey, cornbread dressing, zucchini gratin, whipped maple sweet potatoes, basil chive red potato mash and pumpkin pie.
Bush planned to return from the Maryland mountains to Washington on Saturday, the 25th birthday of his twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna Bush.
