As people get ready to kick off the shopping season, they need to keep in mind, a few important safety tips.
Don't carry all your money in one place; spread it around to your pockets, your shoe and your wallet. If a thief strikes, you don't want them to strike it rich. Also, don't walk away from your purse, it's easy to think it's safe if you're close by, but that's not always the case.
Tulsa Police officer Scott Walton: "we lose checks, often, credit cards, all of our credit cards, all our ID at one time. One can only imagine the process to replace all that."
Also, don't carry your social security card with you. You don't need it, but, if thieves get it, they can use your identity to open lines of credit, get loans, all kinds of things that will wreck your finances.
