HULBERT, Okla. (AP) -- A pickup truck slammed into a tree early Tuesday morning in Cherokee County, killing a 53-year-old Hulbert man.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says John Singleton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash just after midnight about five miles west of Hulbert.

Singleton was driving his GMC pickup eastbound on State Highway 51 when he ran off the road and struck a tree.

The patrol says Singleton was not wearing his seat belt.
