A Tulsa charter teacher resigns amid allegations of improper conduct.
The teacher worked for Dove Science Academy until Wednesday. The charter school says they took all appropriate measures, but some parents disagree.
News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims looks into the allegations.
Dove Science Academy is a small Tulsa charter school, started in 2000. The school's website says they have about 400 students and 27 teachers. Now one of those teachers is being questioned.
The News on 6 has received a number of anonymous emails, phone calls and faxes accusing a Dove Science teacher of being sexually inappropriate. That teacher, whom we are not naming because he has not been arrested or charged, resigned from his position this week.
The school's director said in a faxed statement, that Dove conducted "complete investigations into the complaints,†and "no proof of inappropriate behavior was found.†The letter goes on to say the teacher "felt he would be unable to perform his duties amongst rumors of unprofessional conduct."
Dove's statement was unclear as to whether they contacted police about these accusations. If teachers or school officials have any reason to believe a child is being abused, they are bound by state law to report it. If they don't, that is a crime.
The News on 6 tried to contact Dove Science Academy's director repeatedly, before and after we received the fax. We were unable to reach him for further clarification of the school's actions. We also called Tulsa Public Schools, which is responsible for Dove's charter, they said they would look into the matter.
