EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- The remains of an Oklahoma soldier who was killed in Vietnam nearly 40 years ago have been identified and are heading home.

First Lieutenant Fred Ransbottom was reported missing in action on Mothers Day, May 12th, 1968, when his position was overrun by the North Vietnamese.

His remains were found last March and recently were positively identified.

His 80-year-old mother is Laverne Ransbottom of Edmond who says she's elated to know her son was never mistreated and never held by the enemy. She also now has his dog tags, wallet with his I-D and his Putnam City High School class ring that were recovered.

She says military officials are planning to meet with her about a funeral service and burial and she plans to bury her son in Edmond Memorial Park near where her husband is buried.
