Most disabled veterans are eligible for benefits from the government, but sometimes red tape can keep those benefits out of deserving hands for years.

One Green Country vet wants to make sure America's war heroes are taken care of. News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson explains how a national restaurant chain is helping that happen.

Golden Corral dished out thousands of free dinners to American veterans Monday evening, but a small table set up near the front of one Tulsa restaurant was offering much more than a meal.

The Disabled American Veterans set up shop inside a Tulsa Golden Corral equipped with information. It's information that changed Jack Gravlie's life forever.

When his military service left him disabled and unable to work he had no where to turn. He applied for benefits and got denied. Gravlie says he knew he must qualify for something after years of service to our country. But he couldn't get passed the paperwork.

That's when Gravlie finally met up with the folks out at Disabled American Veterans. "They helped me with me getting food stamps for my son, they helped me. Theyâ€™re putting me in for retraining to get a education, so I can become a good citizen." If it wasn't for the DAV and I wouldn't have a place to live I wouldn't have food on my table."

Golden Corrals across eastern Oklahoma offered free buffets for veterans Monday evening.
