TUs Smith a Wuerffel Trophy finalist

TULSA, Okla. (AP) University of Tulsa quarterback Paul Smith is one of 11 finalists for this year's Wuerffel Trophy.

The award is given each year to a player who combines athletic achievement with academic success and community service. It's named for former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel.

Smith is 16-6 as TU's starting quarterback and is involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes in which he serves as a guest speaker and meets with children.

The winner of the trophy will be announced next month.
