Bartlesville, Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Stillwater and Ponca City, have announced they are splitting away from the Frontier Conference and forming their own conference with Enid. The schools will play the 2007-08 season under the new Centennial Conference.

The sports most affected will be basketball, junior high football and various other sports, which schedule mostly conference games.

Soccer and football will not be affected because the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association determine the districts for those sports. Conference is not a factor.

The schools cited a lack of balance and an inability to compete at the level of the eastern teams, which include Jenks, Union and Broken Arrow.

The remaining schools in the Frontier Conference, Owasso, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Muskogee and Tulsa Union say they'll meet soon to discuss their options.
