The year-long celebration of Oklahoma's Centennial has begun. As News on 6 reporter Rick Wells explains movies, festivals, and creative exhibits highlight the first days of the celebration.

This is one of the early events with a centennial tie-in, the Kids World Festival at the Tulsa County fairgrounds. The biennial event invites visitors to learn about dozens of countries with out ever leaving the building. You can go to the Netherlands and trade in your flip-flops for some wooden shoes.

Some counties have made an effort to connect with the Oklahoma Centennial. Jocelyn Wood with Tulsa Global Alliance: "Russian has done a nice timeline so you can see what was going on in Russian and Oklahoma."

There are lots of Centennial related events and exhibits. The Circle Cinema and the Riverwalk Movies in Jenks will host the Oklahoma Film Festival, lots of movies with a Sooner connection.

The Tulsa Air and Space Museum is hosting a photo exhibit of 100 years of aviation, from statehood to space.

But the Kids World provides an opportunity to expend some energy and also learn something, like making baskets or quilting. Kids World Fest runs through Sunday in the Expo Building at the Tulsa County fairgrounds.

A complete list of Centennial events scheduled throughout the state during the next year can be found on the Centennial website.
