News development of the Gilcrease Expressway began Wednesday.

The vision that started in 1961 continued its trek Wednesday with the northwest extension of the expressway.

Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor: "we will be taking it east this connections will take it east, then we will take it west up by the botanical gardens and connecting the west side of the city so it really, I think, will do a lot to bring our city together and to bring economic development to historically underdeveloped areas."

The $56-million expressway is said to take a few more years to complete. The final project will connect North Lewis Avenue and the Tisdale Parkway.
