OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State Agriculture Secretary Terry Peach says the deadline is approaching for livestock producers to apply for federal assistance grants.
The grants are intended to offset ranchers for losses caused by the prolonged drought. Payments will be made based on the number animals they owned as of March seventh.
Producers have three weeks until November 20th to apply for a share of the $6.5-million the state is getting in Livestock Assistance Grant funds.
Officials say there have been about 4,500 applications so far. There are more than 60,000 cattle operations in the state and other producers of animals such as sheep, goat, bison and commercial deer and elk.
