DENVER (AP) _ Ricardo Patton is through waiting for a contract extension. He announced Wednesday he's resigning as the men's basketball coach at the University of Colorado when his deal expires at season's end.

Patton made the announcement at the team's annual media day.

Patton is 177-140 in 10 years at Colorado. He led the Buffs to their first NCAA tournament berth since 1969 during his first full season as coach in 1996-97. He led them to another NCAA berth in 2002-03.

Patton took over the program on Jan. 16, 1996, after several years as an assistant.
