The boys and girls at one Claremore elementary school have something to be especially proud of. Their principal from Claremore's Westside Elementary School has been named principal of the year for the state of Oklahoma.
News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says Lou Robertson heads to Washington DC on Wednesday, representing the state of Oklahoma.
It's a reception honoring her service and it also means she's in the running for national elementary school principal of the year. Tuesday, we were there as Roberston's students gave her a special send-off.
The school held an appreciation assembly in her honor complete with songs, cheers and a big book full of hand-made well wishes. The folks at Westside Elementary say they're proud of their principal and they wanted her to know just how much they care.
First grade teacher Myeesha Hicks: "She just stays so in touch with everything that's going on and it just amazes me she finds the time to be able to that and keep up with all the responsibilities a principal has"
4th grader Blane Ozbun: "she's fun energetic, loves to interact with kids, and go into the classrooms and read books and have alot of fun. She's one of the best principals I’ve ever had."
The kids say this principal does a lot more than just lead the school, she squirts the mustard and ketchup at lunch, reads to their classes and makes them feel better when they're sad.
School officials say Tuesday's assembly was a way for them to say thank you.
