EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- Republican Ernest Istook and incumbent Democratic Governor Brad Henry exchange heated words over crime and other issues during their second televised debate.
Istook, the decided underdog in the race, was on the attack Monday night from the beginning of the hour-long live debate, which was staged at the University of Central Oklahoma.
He criticized Henry for claiming to be tough on drugs while paroling 1,500 drug dealers during his term.
Henry says Oklahoma, behind his leadership, had led the nation in cracking down on methamphetamine labs and violent criminals.
He says that was why he was endorsed by the state Fraternal Order of Police and the National Rifle Association.
