EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- A 13-year-old Edmond 7th-grader is in police custody for taking a BB gun to school.
Police spokesman Glynda Chu says police were called to Central Middle School at 10:08 Tuesday morning and an officer was on campus one minute later with other officers arriving within minutes.
The boy was arrested for possession of a weapon on school grounds.
Chu says the gun looks like a Colt automatic handgun.
Associate Superintendent Brenda Lyons says the weapon was found in a backpack-like bag after another student told a school counselor about the gun.
The school was not locked down because administrators recovered the weapon and Lyons says the student could be suspended for up to a year.
