Game 2 of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers has been postponed by rain and a threatening forecast.
The game was never started and will be made up Thursday afternoon, beginning at 1:09 pm Eastern Time. Justin Verlander will start for the Tigers against Mike Mussina.
The travel day will be eliminated, and Game 3 will be played Friday night in Detroit as scheduled.
The game was scheduled to start at 8:09 pm. Shortly after the national anthem, the teams went back to their clubhouses, and the tarp was put over the infield even though it wasn't raining.
A light rain began at 8:24 pm, and it rained off and on until the grounds crew removed the tarp at about 9:40 pm. Verlander went to the outfield to start throwing in preparation for his start. But at 9:55 pm, even though it wasn't raining, the grounds crew put the tarp back on.
