OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Officials at Connors State College are considering offering a two-year degree in sustainable agriculture.
Sustainable agriculture is a term that generally refers to farming practices which reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals.
Connors State President Donnie Nero says increasing consumer interest in organic foods plus public awareness of health risks associated with eating food treated with pesticides may drive the need for the program.
Connors State College is a two-year school with campuses in Warner and Muskogee. Its agriculture department has about 100 students.
Nero says a sustainable agriculture program might bring in 25 more.
