OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- State lawmakers have learned that in spite of recent tuition hikes, Oklahoma's higher education system remains a relative bargain.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education says Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma are the most affordable schools in the Big 12 Conference.

State Representative Tad Jones of Claremore requested a legislative study on tuition rates. Jones says lawmakers must ensure Oklahoma students are not priced out of an education.

The cost for an Oklahoma resident to attend OU as a full-time student is currently just over $3,000 a year. It cost more than $3,200 a year to attend OSU.
