OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Arkansas poultry companies that have run advertisements that reference Oklahoma's attorney general say today they will suspend those ads until after Oklahoma's general election on November 7th.
Poultry Community Council spokeswoman Janet Wilkerson says the group taking the action to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
Wilkerson says the ads are meant to educate the public about the poultry industry. They had run on the council's Web site and also appeared on television and radio stations and in newspapers.
The ads don't mention Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson by name, but refer to, quote, "the attorney general."
They also don't mention a federal lawsuit Edmondson filed last year against the poultry companies, accusing them of releasing hazardous substances and other pollutants into waters in northeastern Oklahoma.
Edmondson, a Democrat, will face Republican James Dunn in the November election. Edmondson's spokesman, Charlie Price, says the decision by the council to suspend the ads is appropriate.
