Two people are dead and another is critically injured after authorities in Cherokee County say a jealous husband shot his estranged wife and her boyfriend before turning the gun on himself.
The shootings happened just north of Tahlequah. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the shooter was angry because his estranged wife was dating someone else. 43-year-old Grace Mouse and 40-year-old Antonio Fuentes-Castillo had recently split up. She had gone out Saturday night with her boyfriend 41-year-old David James to play Bingo.
Sunday morning, Fuentes-Castillo went to Mouse's home. She met him at the door with a kitchen knife. He had a gun and shot her in the head killing her. He then went after James, shooting him several times in the chest and arm.
Sheriff’s deputies say Fuentes-Castillo then turned the gun on himself. Although James was seriously injured, he regained consciousness and called for help.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator Jason Chenault: "he went back in the living room and shot and killed himself, and when the boyfriend he came to he called some of his family members, who eventually called 911, and he eventually called 911 also."
The sheriff’s office say James was flown to a hospital in Tahlequah, where he has undergone surgery and is now listed in stable condition. No one else was home at the time of the shooting.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help with the case.
