CHANDLER, Okla. (AP) -- The mother of a 2-year-old Meeker girl who died last October waived a preliminary hearing Friday on charges of enabling child abuse and child neglect.

Raye Dawn Smith is charged in connection with the death of Kelsey Smith-Briggs.

Smith is due to return to court in October although her attorney and prosecutors are trying to agree on a plea deal.

Kelsey's stepfather -- Michael Lee Porter -- is charged with murder in the girl's death and Smith is expected to testify during his trial early next year.
