If you would like to grow some bananas in your own garden you have to have patience.
South Tulsan Ray McCollum got a banana tree from a friend four years ago. "I was fascinated by it. I thought I might get a stalk of bananas."
After several years of digging the tree up in the fall, potting it and moving it inside, then replanting outside in the spring, this year he finally has a big bunch of ripening bananas growing in his front flower bed.
Once the tree produces fruit it dies, but produces new shoots like babies and the process can start all over again.
