WETUMKA, Okla. (AP) -- Fire gutted a large, historic church in Wetumka on Wednesday.

City Water Superintendent Glen Hughes said the fire broke out about 3:45 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in downtown Wetumka. Hughes said he received a call that smoke was rising from the south end of the church.

Several nearby fire departments, including units from Holdenville and Weleetka, helped battle the blaze, authorities said.

Television news video showed flames leaping from the interior of the building and that the roof had collapsed.

There were no reports of injuries, Hughes said. The cause of the blaze wasn't immediately known.

Hughes says the two-story church was built in the early 1900s.

A downtown fire in Wetumka destroyed three buildings in October 2005.
