OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- About 3,000 people gathered at the Oklahoma City National Memorial for a "Freedom Walk" to commemorate the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Governor Brad Henry drew parallels between the terrorist attacks and the April 19th, 1995, Oklahoma City bombing. The bombing killed 168.
The crowd applauded when the governor recalled the sacrifices and dangers faced by members of the military who are battling terrorism overseas and firefighters prepared to respond to terrorist attacks at home.
Chief Warrant Officer Ronald Petty recalled with pride the efforts of his son, 28-year-old Staff Sergeant Eric Petty of Fort Gibson, to provide security for ordinary Iraqis. Eric Petty was killed by small arms fire in May 2004.
