TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ A Gage man who was struck by a car on the Cimarron Turnpike died Monday at a Tulsa hospital, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Darrel Coffey, 50, died shortly after 9 AM from injuries suffered in Sunday night's accident in Pawnee County, the OHP said.
Coffey was lying in the westbound lane of the turnpike after being injured in a previous accident, the OHP reported. Robert J. Johnson, 15, was trying help Coffey when both were run over by a westbound 2005 Ford Focus driven by Kirk B. Sleichter, 55, of Wichita, Kansas, the patrol said. Sleichter and three passengers in his vehicle weren't injured.
Sleichter told troopers he was blinded by the lights from a vehicle facing eastbound in the westbound lane.
The teen was treated for a leg injury and released from a nearby hospital. Coffey was taken by helicopter in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital with numerous injuries.
