CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) -- A group of military Purple Heart recipients are honoring a Chickasha firefighter who died from burns suffered while fighting a wildfire earlier this year.
The Oklahoma City chapter of The Military Order of the Purple Heart recognized Destry Horton of Rush Springs by presenting his widow -- Brandy -- with a plaque during a ceremony at a Chickasha fire station.
Horton was volunteering with the Acme Fire Department to help fight a fire near Duncan on March first. Investigators say a rolling wave of flames engulfed his fire truck, melted the truck's windows and left him with severe burns.
He died March 24th.
