OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be out in full force this weekend to enforce traffic and boating laws during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The OHP is canceling all days off for troopers so they can patrol the highways and the state's lakes as part of Operation CARE -- or Combined Accident Reduction Effort.
Troopers will be watching especially for drunk drivers, reckless driving, speeding and anyone not wearing safety belts.
Trooper Kera Philippi says nine people died in traffic accidents during the Labor Day weekend last year and none of the nine were wearing a seat belt.
The increased patrols begin at 6 Friday evening and will continue through midnight Monday.
