Storm System Brings Rain To Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A storm system brought cooler temperatures and much-needed rain to most of Oklahoma, although a flood watch does remain in effect for northeastern portion of the state.

The state's coolest high temperature Sunday was 75 degrees, at Kenton in Cimarron County in the far western Panhandle. Oklahoma City's high of 78 was 24 degrees lower than its high Saturday of 102.

The state's highest temperature was in Idabel, in McCurtain County in far southeastern Oklahoma, where it hit 98 degrees before a storm arrived late in the afternoon.

National Weather Service meteorologist Forrest Mitchell in Norman says that storm dumped 2.83 inches of rain on Idabel during a three-hour period.

Oklahoma City recorded 2.24 inches of rain between 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. The average rainfall in August in the state capital is 2.48 inches.

Mitchell says rain should continue through this afternoon but the storm system should clear out tonight and leave cooler temperatures in its wake.
