OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A pair of state lawmakers are praising action by the Insurance Department they say will allow new workers compensation legislation to continue to work.

Representatives Ryan McMullen and Randy Terrill say providing a replacement for Certificates of Non-Coverage, or CNCs, was the right thing to do.

Prior to this year, CNCs were granted to businesses as proof that the employer did not have to purchase workers compensation coverage for a contract worker. CNC cards were valid for up to two years and cost 20 dollars.

But the program was plagued by fraud, and lawmakers abolished it.

Employers will now obtain an Affidavit of Independent Contractor Status under new guidelines established by the Insurance Department.
