EL RENO, Okla. (AP) -- Canadian County prosecutors have charged a Yukon Police captain with assault and battery.
Captain Andrew -J- Johnson also faces a count of falsely reporting a crime following an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation probe launched in early June.
Yukon Police Chief Ike Shirley says Johnson is on paid suspension pending the outcome of the probe into the May 8th incident.
According to court records, state investigators obtained a video surveillance tape from the Xerox plant in west Oklahoma City of an altercation involving Johnson and Oklahoma City resident Joseph -T- Henson.
An affidavit says Johnson's description of the incident to Oklahoma City Police didn't match information gleaned from the videotape.
Johnson says he was off duty when Henson tried to hit him first and he punched the man. According to court records, the tape didn't show Henson as the aggressor but as retreating to the inside of his car to getaway from Johnson.
Johnson was arrested Tuesday and posted $2,000 bail. He faces up to 180 days in jail, a $1,500 fine or both.
