LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- The military base realignment commission has decided to relocate 233 accounting jobs at Fort Sill to bases in other states.
Commissioners voted Wednesday to consolidate Defense Finance and Accounting Service jobs at 26 locations across the nation, including Fort Sill, into just five sites.
Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole had urged the commission to reject the recommendation and says he's disappointed in the decision.
Cole, whose district includes Fort Sill, says he'll work to make sure accounting service workers will be able to compete for the new civilian work coming to Fort Sill.
Fort Sill will gain an estimated 3,600 military and civilian jobs in a plan to move air defense artillery units at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, to Fort Sill.
