OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A high school football player who became overheated during a team practice has died of hyperthermia due to heat exhaustion.
Authorities say Chris Stewart, a 17-year-old senior on the Douglass High School football team in Oklahoma City, died last night at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.
Stewart was a 6-foot 1-inch, 291-pound lineman for Douglass. He was hospitalized Tuesday morning after paramedics reported that he was ``overheated and semiconscious'' following practice at the Douglass High School stadium.
School officials say all payers at Douglass who were practicing had passed a preseason physical.
Stewart is the first player in Oklahoma to die after a football practice since August 2004.
