OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Young men in Oklahoma will have an easier time registering for the draft under a new state law.

Governor Brad Henry held a ceremonial bill signing yesterday for a measure that allows 18- to 26-year-old men to register with Selective Service System when they apply for a driver's license.

The deputy director of the Selective Service visited the state Capitol to participate in the ceremony.

Eric Benson says even as the US Army struggles to recruit new soldiers, the federal government has no plans to reinstate the draft.

The Oklahoma native says the Selective Service maintains data on a pool of more than 15-million men. He says failure to register could keep someone from getting a government job or federal aid for college. It is also a felony offense.
