OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ It probably is no surprise to most political watchers that Oklahoma City and Tulsa are high on a list of America's most conservative cities compiled by a Berkeley, Calif., research group.
Oklahoma City ranked No. 22 on the conservative list while Tulsa was five spots behind at 27.
The Bay Area Center for Voting Research, which says it is nonpartisan, ranked 237 U.S. cities with a population of more than 100,000.
The BACVR also listed the nation's most liberal cities and ranked Tulsa No. 211 and Oklahoma City No. 216.
The nation's most conservative city, according to the BACVR, is Provo, Utah and the most liberal is Detroit.
Ranked higher on the list of conservative cities than Oklahoma City were three Texas cities: Lubbock, No. 2; Abilene, No. 3, and the Dallas suburb of Plano, No. 5. Also ranked higher than Oklahoma City on the conservative list were Bakersfield, Orange and Escondido in California.
Right behind Detroit on the liberal list were Gary, Ind.; Berkeley, Calif.; Washington D.C., and Oakland and Inglewood in California.
