A funeral was held Wednesday for a Sapulpa Police officer and his father. Both died when the officer's patrol car wrecked over the weekend. The officer's father was riding along.

News on 6 reporter says it was a funeral with both police and military honors, since both men were veterans. Officer Larry Cantrell was 34 years old, a Navy veteran who served with the Sapulpa PD for the last 16 months. His father was 59 year old Charles Cantrell, a truck driver who was an Army veteran of Vietnam.

The funeral procession stretched for miles as the mourners drove from west Tulsa, where the funeral was held, to the cemetery in Broken Arrow. There, both caskets, father and son, were draped in flags, and carried down a line of more than 250 officers standing at attention.

For the Sapulpa Police Department - it's the first officer killed on duty since the 1930's. Sapulpa Police officer Glenn Coffey: "We know anything can happen whenever we take this job, but unfortunately, we've had to experience the worst part of the job and that's to lose one of our own."

While all those officers were away from their post, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Tulsa County Sheriff's office handled calls in Sapulpa.
