The Tulsa County courthouse was evacuated Thursday afternoon. No, it wasn't a real emergency, but only a drill. Officials say they were pleased with the evacuation drill because it only took about 20 minutes to get everyone out from all nine floors of the building.
There were a couple of glitches. A few people in a smoking room did not hear the drill, but for the most part was successful. Tulsa County spokesperson Paul Wilkening: "We send the sheriff's deputies and the floor wardens, we had floor wardens on each floor to go through and make sure if anyone needs help, they get it. Or if they're handicap and need assistance to get out. Or our smokers, who didn't hear it, that we all get those people out. So there's a process with a building this big that we have in place and it worked."
Wilkening says there were about 2,000 people in the courthouse building Thursday afternoon.
