ICE could save your life. ICE stands for "In case of emergency".

It's a new concept that's spreading rapidly across the country. You put your emergency contact number in your cell-phone under the name ICE. That way rescue workers can find it quickly and easily if you're knocked out or can't talk.

News on 6 reporter Steve Berg says it's a simple idea, but sometimes the simplest ones are the best ones.

Officials wanted to expand on that with some more tips Thursday. For example, emergency workers say you want to choose a contact who's a clear-minded adult, who won't panic if they get a call that you're hurt.

Also, you're contact is only as good as the information that you give them, so keep them up-to-date. And they need to be someone who carries their cell phone as much as you do. EMSA’s Tina Wells: "we encourage your ICE partner to be someone who carries their cell phone a lot. If it's someone who works 9 to 5, putting their home phone number on there might not do a lot of good."

EMSA also has stickers that you can put on your phone to show that you have an ICE number.

They also have cards you can give to your ICE partner, where they can write down your important medical information.
